Thanksgiving Pie Ideas

Thanksgiving Pie Ideas

I never know what pies I'm making for Thanksgiving until the very last moment. There's just so much to choose from and I wonder if should go with an old standby or try something new and experimental and potentially risky?! I feel overwhelmed by the possibility. If you're like me and still at a loss, here's a handy list of suggestions to help guide you in your selection. Still haven't found what you're looking for? Visit the Recipe Index for more ideas, and take a gander at last year's guide.

This is the first place I came for Thanksgiving pie inspiration, and it didn't disappoint! I think I'll go with the cranberry goat cheese tart, double yum

Also I'm thinking of adding black cardamom to a pumpkin pie...have you ever used this spice? it is the most perfect thing ever

Sally! I think you'll like that tart--it was a favorite last year. Black cardamom?? I've used cardamom but not black cardamom--are they different? Tell me more! I love putting cardamom in sweet things, especially brownies à la Vimala Rajendran of Vimala's Curryblossom Café in Chapel Hill.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ok, I made the tart! Looks beautiful. To the pumpkin pie, instead of adding bourbon, I added some black cardamom bitters that Andrew made. Haven't tried it yet, but the batter tasted amazing.

Black cardamom is a different spice (but related). It is really smoky and camphor-like, seriously has an amazing smell. You should definitely check it out next time you're at a fancy spice shop

Oh thank you, thank you for your wonderful recipes! I made Cranberry-Lime Galette and it was DIVINE. I can't wait to make it again and to try others. The turbinado sugar on top gave it such lovely little crunch and I'd never serve it without whipped cream -- that put it over the top yum-wise!

How did the black cardamom bitters turn out, Sally??

Keylan, thanks so much for the kind words and I'm so glad you loved the cranberry galette! I love anything with cranberries--they're such an ideal fruit to bake with.
